A key requirement of ISO 26262 is the description of a consistent verification and validation concept covering the complete electric/electronics development process. This article presents how a verification and validation concept for an automatic transmission control system was established at Mercedes-Benz. The main goal was to create a modular structure to apply the concept to project variants and to achieve a reusability of the concept to other projects. The main subject of this article is the test strategy, tackling test case derivation, test level selection and regression testing. Verification and validation at a system level is described in more detail. In addition, it is pointed out how the existing development process is linked to the work products of ISO 26262.
