The study represents the development of a new 3-DOF (3-Degree of Freedom) vehicle dynamics/crash mathematical model to study the effect of VDCSs (Vehicle Dynamics Control System) on full frontal vehicle-to-barrier collision and using these systems to mitigate vehicle collision. It has been demonstrated that the mathematical model is valid as well as reliable and could be used in many other full frontal crash scenarios. A comparison among five different VDCS scenarios has been provided and the vehicle body velocity, deceleration, front-end deformation and pitching analysis are determined. This study shows that the minimum vehicle crumble zone deformation is obtained when the ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) alongside AS (Active Suspension) are applied, while the minimum vehicle body pitch angle and acceleration are obtained when the ABS alongside front AS are applied. In addition, it illustrates that more reduction of the vehicle body pitch angle and acceleration can be obtained if hard suspension damping (high damping coefficients) is used.
