The potential of the mitigation of the impact of home charging of electric vehicles on the loading of the distribution grid is related to the plug-in times and energy demands of battery electric vehicles per charging cycle. The aim of this paper is to show the potential of a reasonable integration of battery electric vehicles into a distribution grid. The integration comprises intelligent/managed charging based on real time pricing (RTP) and time of use (TOU) pricing utilizing negotiation processes for managing individual charging events. It also deals with the potential of RTP and TOU pricing to fulfil power distribution and energy supply goals to reduce grid stress and realize so called green charging strategies like minimum CO2 charging.
