Profiles are nowadays required in different products or components where light-weight design is thriving. Conventional profiles have a constant thickness distribution. The request of more efficiency and less weight in components led to the development and production of tailored products such as tailor rolled blank where the longitudinal thickness distribution is non-constant. A new material distribution in transversal direction can increase the efficiency and the light weight potential of tailor rolled blank. This can be achieved by a transversal thickness variation of tailor rolled blank in a second rolling process called strip profile rolling. In this sense a new research field has been opened with the aim to create profiles or blanks with a thickness variation in longitudinal and transversal direction. To avoid undesired waves or buckles along the strip. the profile roll must follow the shape of the tailor rolled blank and simultaneously the thickness must be reduced. During the process of strip profile rolling the roll gap must change similar to the flexible rolling process. Initial experiments and results will be presented in this paper to show the feasibility of the combined process. The experiments have been performed using the aluminium alloy (AlMg3) strips of 4 mm thickness and 151 mm width.
