The influence of cross flow is of interest for the aerodynamics and for the driving dynamics of ground vehicles. The objective of this paper is to determine the effect of crosswind on the wake of a generic car model. Simulations were carried out in the water tunnel at the Technische Universität Braunschweig in the Institute of Fluid Mechanics. Experiments were carried out viewing the x-y plane behind the model using Standard Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). For these experiments, measurements were taken with the model in a free stream velocity of 0.5 m/s and 1 m/s, yielding a Reynolds number of 72,500 and 145,000 respectively. Three different rear slant angles were tested 25° 30° and 35°.
