An attention focuses on advanced electric and hybrid vehicles from the environmental points of view. However, the electric powered vehicles (EPV) have the advantages not only of low impact to the environment but also of their motion to be controlled more easily than conventional vehicles for active safety. Once an EPV is equipped with four in-wheel motors for each wheel, it is easy to control the four tire longitudinal forces independently for more sophisticated vehicle motion control. In addition, the four wheels of the vehicle are possible to be steered independently by some electro magnetic actuators to control four tire lateral forces for the motion control. Thus the EPV will easily become a full drive-by-wire vehicle, which must be an ultimate individual vehicle motion control. A response model following control with the optimum tire force distribution for the full drive-by-wire electric powered vehicle brings us a significant improvement of active safety of the vehicle. As any model response is basically available for the control of the full drive-by-wire vehicle to follow with optimizing tire force distribution, an important point is what response should be provided for the control design from the view point of ease of control for the drivers. The driver model based handling quality evaluation method with experimental identification of the driver parameters will be applicable to the design of full drive-by-wire electric powered vehicles having a good handling quality evaluation - ease of control.
