Three different approaches to steel solutions in high strength applications with a minimum yield strength higher than 1.000 MPa are presented. The success of these materials concepts is based on outstanding combinations of strength and further properties like ductility, toughness or fatigue strength. Specific material selection based on production, technological properties, cost, availability, workability and subsequent processing steps is the key factor for customised solutions. In all cases a homogeneous and fine microstructure, consisting mainly of tempered martensite and a well-defined bainite and/or austenite fraction is the key to meeting customer demands. Furthermore the capability of the quenching and partitioning technology resulting in TRIP-assisted multi phase steel is demonstrated.
