The tremendous advantage in weight obtained by using plastics brings with it some serious acoustic requirements. In the task of taking into account all psychoacoustic effects of vehicle noise, the efficient Random Access psychoacoustic method was employed to determine target sounds. Putting target sound into practice was shown by the example of underbody encapsulations. The advantages of the MAMA, pentalaminate and AKcell technologies for sound absorption performance were discussed. Efficient tools to improve the acoustic behaviour were pointed out by means of predictions from calculation, structural measures as well as material changes.
