In this paper, the vibration and acoustic radiation characteristics of two types of low-noise damped wheels are analyzed. One of the damped wheels adopts labyrinthine damping treatment (LDT) and the other uses constrained layer damping treatment (CLD). In order to compare the vibration and acoustic radiation characteristics of the two types of the tow-noise railway wheels, a hybrid FEM-BEM vibro-acoustic model is developed in this paper. In the procedure, the 3D lid element method is hired to develop 3D FEM model for China subway wheels with LDT tod CLD, Using the FEM investigates the nature frequencies, modes and frequency responses of the damped wheels. Then, their velocity responses are used as velocity boundary conditions in the acoustic boundary element modal (BEM) for noise radiation analysis. In the dynamic response calculation, a vertical unit force is considered as an exciting force at the nominal contact point an the wheel tread. The analysis frequency range is from 0 Hz to 3000 Hz. The numerical results clearly describe the natural frequencies, the mobility, and the sound powers of the two tow-noise wheels as well as the directivities of the wheels noise radiation. They can provide the import references for the acoustic optimization of wheel damping treatment and the selection of low-noise damping wheels.
