In this paper, the classification algorithm of the driving steering intention using EEG is examined and developed. Experiments were conducted by 5 able-bodied subjects at the vehicle running using driving simulator (DS). The off-line analysis is conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm. As in traditional pattern classification system, the Brain Computer Interface (BCI) system consists of three main modules (pre-processing, feature extraction and classification). The feature vector based on Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT) was extracted from electrode signals. The occurrence probability was obtained by the multivariate normal distribution from the feature vector. The drivers steering intention is classified by Bayesian decision theory using that result. The major conclusions to be drawn from experimental studies, using this algorithm are summarized as follows: In the classification based on the drivers steering intention, it can classify the steering intention from the given brain wave sensor information at an average of about 65% of all the subjects. In the classification based on the feedback information of the driver, it is classified at an average of about 75% of all the subjects. Before the driver steers, this algorithm based on electroencephalogram signal can be use to classify the steering direction and recognize the driver steering intention.
