Early variable amplitude fatigue loading studies that were conducted for offshore structures in the North Sea focused only on fixed platforms. Nowadays, a variety of structures exist offshore including fixed, semi-submersible, compliant and jack-up platforms. Several working groups such as COLOS (Common Load Sequence for the European Coal and Steel Community Research Programme II), UKOSRP and Wave Action Standard Load History (WASH) established the basis for the development of realistic variable amplitude load spectra and procedures for fatigue testing of fixed offshore structures in the North Sea. This paper describes the development and implementation of a standardised simulated service loading framework for the long-life corrosion fatigue testing of offshore jack-up platforms with particular emphasis on ensuring that the sequence is statistically stationary. The results presented include the measured fatigue life and fatigue crack growth data. KEYWORDS Variable Amplitude, Spectrum Loading, Simulated Service Loading, Random Stationary, Long-Life Variable Amplitude Corrosion Fatigue. During this study, a total of five full-penetration welded T-butt specimens, fabricated from 50 mm thick plates, were fatigue tested under simulated environmental conditions. The test material used is SUPER ELSO 702 (SE702), which is a type of high strength weldable steel widely used in jack-up platforms. The main objective of the study is to investigate the fatigue performance of high strength steel under cathodic over-protection, especially in the long life region. The data obtained from the corrosion fatigue tests showed that there is an improvement in fatigue performance for SE 702 for both air and under cathodic protection than that shown for 50 D material Since the number of fatigue tests conducted are limited, more tests are required in order to draw a clear conclusion on the fatigue performance of SE 702 in the long life regime.
