Ring rolling is a special form of rolling process to produce seamless rings. Rings with contoured cross-section can be produced by using profile rolls. The finite element analysis is useful to design the near-net-shape ring rolling processes. A partial 3D model was proposed to reduce the computational time and validated the results of analyses by comparing them with the experimental ones. In this paper, the hot ring rolling process of the jet engine part is analyzed to design the process. The material of the ring is Ni-based superalloy alloy718 that is the most widely used heat resistant alloy for aero-engine parts. Thermo-mechanical analyses are carried out and the effects of the preformed shape and the feed speed of the pressure roll on the rolled shape, the strain distribution and the temperature distribution are discussed. Finally, the field trial rolling using the designed rolling condition is carried out and the results of the trial are compared with ones obtained by the finite element analysis. The optical micrographs of the rolled ring show a fine grained and uniform microstructure.
