In this paper a 2nd generation narrowband 24 GHz automotive radar sensor is presented, with the focus on an MMIC which was specifically developed for this Radar concept. System design, antenna, waveform, the RF and DSP module, the software design, the cost and performance aspects will be described. The significant technical and economical advantages of the implemented SiGe BiCMOS transceiver are demonstrated. Some automotive applications based on this new technology and new radar system design will be explained.
