The problem of providing delay and reliability guarantees for multimedia applications in wireless multihop networks is a challenging problem due to the unreliable nature of the wireless channel. One of these applications inside an aircraft is the inflight entertainment service, which in future may be supported by short-range multihop wireless networks. This paper proposes an ILP (Integer Linear Programming) formulation for an STDMA-based joint scheduling and routing scheme of multimedia streams over short-range multihop wireless networks. The goal is to maximize the network throughput, while fulfilling the delay and reliability requirements of the streams. The results indicate that reducing the packet failure probability by a factor of 101 to 102 reduces the throughput by 20% to 50%. In this paper, the problem of joint scheduling and routing of multimedia streams over short-range wireless networks in the context of a passenger cabin while providing QoS guarantees have been studied. The solution is based on an ILP formulation and the results exhibit a trade-off between network throughput and reliability. Nevertheless, in several cases a reduction of 20% to 45% in throughput is amply compensated by packet error-rate reduction factors from 10 to more than 100. These results serve as a support to further explore the remaining challenges and improvement opportunities of high data-rate short-range wireless networks.
