The MAG-welding of a part of a complex structure from a railway vehicle was simulated. The often in industrial practice used pre-tack-welding was taken into account. The first results in the research project show the importance of the correct simulation of prearrangements. To predict reliable welding distortions it is necessary to take all preparation of the welded parts into account. In the shown case the best agreement of measured and calculated results can be achieved with pre-connection of the line of the welded seam and a selective connection at the bottom of the structure. The carried out practicle tack welding gives the structure more stability compared to a selective connection of nodes in the FE-model. It is necessary to connect a complete line of nodes for the calculations. The next steps in the research project will show the influence of clamping on the same structure ivestigated here. Furthermore a second and third weld seam will be added to the node. This will raise the occuring distortions and support the understanding of the complexity of an industrial part.
