Developing future drive systems and vehicle concepts against the background of decreasing raw material reserves and new legislation requires establishing relation between the system 'vehicle' with the driver and the environment. The development of security related drive assistant systems as well as energy efficient drive strategics makes appropriate test and simulation tools necessary. Those tools must be integrated in a continuous development environment, from the individual clement (e.g. control unit functions) to the entire vehicle (in the field test or roller test bench). The reproducibility of such tests in the integration of driver and environment is a great challenge. What follows is a method, which allows to integrate in the roller test bench the driver and also the environment, such as road topology and traffic, and thus to test and to develop drive assistant systems as well as energy efficient drive strategies under reproducible circumstances. For this purpose, the test environment of the acoustic test bench of the Institute of Product Development is coupled with the simulation environment AVL InMotion which enables 3D field models as well as simulating lateral dynamics to be embedded in the test bench.
