Even today the recognition of pedestrians in road traffic situations remains a very challenging task. Furthermore, it seems to be impossible to predict a pedestrian's behaviour by more than a few fractions of a second. But in order to design a well performing pedestrian safety system, a prediction is absolutely necessary. Most current Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) operate on object lists delivered by outward looking sensors. This paper presents an extended approach for an ADAS incorporating additional information about the environment. The focus is on a new concept for situation awareness which is able to cope with uncertain information especially for automotive safety systems.
