Indian Railways has approached Trelleborg Industrial AVS to retrofit its locomotives with better suspension systems, with the aim to increase the velocity and reliability of its trains. Trelleborg supplied Metacone conical mountings and air springs to improve the primary and secondary suspension of Indian rail coaches and facilitate better maintenance planning and overhaul schedules. The suspensions supplied by the company were selected based on the country's geography, the hot climate, distortions in railway lines, and uneven ground underneath the tracks. Trelleborg also manufactured specialized components such as air spring and conical rubber mountings, linked to primary and secondary suspension for Indian Railways. The old technology or steel coil springs used in the suspension of Indian Railways coaches is also being replaced with Trelleborg's rubber components or air spring.
