TerraSAR-X (TSX) is the first civilian SAR (synthetic aperture radar) satellite capable of acquiring data with multiple apertures in along-track direction. This allows for effective detection of ground object motions and thus for a demonstration of spaceborne traffic measurement with SAR. Due to the high relevance of high quality traffic information DLR has started the development of a traffic processor for TerraSAR-X data. In this paper the authors give an overview on the ground moving target indication techniques applied in the processor. Furthermore, they present results of the first traffic measurements for different motorways and address the integration of the system into a near-real-time processing chain. This paper gives an overview on the applied GMTI (ground moving target indication) techniques and presents first results of application of the system to TSX aperture switching (AS) mode data. Section 2 describes the TTP (TSX Traffic Processor) and discusses some of its components. In section 3 the authors show examples of traffic detection for different test sites. Section 4 addresses performance issues, and in section 5 the authors draw conclusions.
