The complexity of functions which are realized in software in modern automotive electric/electronic (E/E) systems is immense, and the development and integration of these functions in single electronic control units (ECUs) or even multiple interconnected ECUs is challenging. In the past years, a multitude of new, innovative functions have been introduced into passenger vehicles, driven by increasing customer and legislative requirements towards increased power, comfort, safety, environmental sustainability and energy efficiency. Large parts of these functions are realized in software within the vehicle's E/E system. At the same time, the complexity of developing these functions has increased as well. The gross of the real-time critical functions are control functions that can be found in the powertrain domain (engine control, transmission control,...) or the chassis domain (anti-lock braking system, electronic stability program, active steering,...). For these functions, operational correctness in all cases is crucial. In this paper the authors show how code-level and system-level timing analysis technology as implemented in the aiT tool from AbsInt and the SymTA/S tool suite from Symtavision can be integrated seamlessly into the ETAS' ASCET development environment for automotive control applications. The paper explains integration details, exemplifies various use cases and illustrates the integrated tool flow.
