In the paper the authors dealt with determination of basic mechanical and microstructure characteristics of parent metal and resistance spot as well as Nd:YAG laser beam overlapped welded joints in ZINKODUR A - H 260 hot zinc plated steel plates 0.8 mm in thickness. The attained results of solution can be briefly summarised as follows: ZINKODUR A - H 260 plates can be resistance welded without any problems with use of spot welding pliers using 50 Hz alternating current which are conventionally used in automotive industry in manufacture of car bodies. The ideal welding parameters vary between: 7.5 up to 10.75 kA current, 1.6 kN up to 2.4 kN stroke and 0.2 s time. ZINKODUR A - H 260 plate is weldable with use of Nd:YAG laser. The quality of welds predominantly depends on gap width of overlapped joint. If this is optimised (about 0.25 - 0.5 mm), the ideal welding parameters for the given type of overlapped welded joint represent welding speed ranging between 180 and 270 cm/min and 2.5 - 4 kW laser input.
