For the Powertrain of the Nissan GT-R a twin-turbocharged V6 which achieves high performance whilst maintaining a compact package of length and mass was selected. A twin intake and exhaust system was developed to make the best use of the advantages of the V6 engine. As a result, the weak point of turbochargers with respect to the response time was overcome and coexistence with power performance was achieved. Moreover, to correspond to the severe acceleration change that the multi-performance super car provides, a new lubrication system was developed. By downsizing and developing a new transmission that achieves the manual transmission level of efficiency, both class leading power performance and fuel economy was achieved. The twin banks of the intake and exhaust system are described: Both sides have independent air-mass-flow meter, intercooler, throttle, and intake collector. Charged air by a right and left bank turbocharger is introduced into the opposite bank combustion chamber, with the system automatically controlling any unbalance between the two banks. To use the effect of the exhaust pulse scavenging that was the advantage of the V6-cylinder layout that has three cylinders each bank, to aim at the torque improvement when no supercharging it, and to improve the torque of the low-speed, the twin intake and exhaust system was adopted. The intercooler to collector length was set to use the resonance effect in the intake for each three cylinders to its maximum with the aim of giving torque improvement in the low-speed region of 1600rpm-2400rpm.
