Based on the results of tribodynamic simulation of wear in the wheel-rail system, the problem of extrapolation of the wheel profile was set with the aim of shortening calculation time severalfold (wear prediction). The solution of the problem using wheel-pair transformation is suggested. The key requirements on such a transformation are formulated. The forming coefficient permitting determination of the conditions under which profile extrapolation is possible is introduced. Worn-out profiles obtained in the process of tribodynamic simulation are classified. Based on the forming coefficient, a transformation for a pair of worn-out profiles allowing for their extrapolation and prediction of subsequent worn-out profiles was performed. Conditions for the application of this method are formulated. The possibility of profile averaging using this method (obtaining of intermediate states of worn-out profiles) is shown. The method of forming coefficient calculations allows determination of the direction and the amount of turning of the repair profile aimed at minimization of material removal in the preferred wear-off area (preservation of the work-hardened layer) in the absence of restrictions for the wheel crest thickness.
