Until today no holistic, centrifugal and user-centered methodology for the systematic generation of a vehicle package concept has been described. An approach to overcome this deficit can be seen in the generation of a simple, dynamic vehicle layout concept that is based on the anthropometric and consequently functional vehicle interior layout conception. In this paper, a compact class vehicle was set up exemplarily by modeling the vehicle occupants with the digital man model RAMSIS. The simple, dynamic vehicle layout concept is based on a simple, static vehicle layout concept which was systematically extended under consideration of selected motion scenarios. With the static and dynamic modeling of the vehicle occupants, the functionally based, most important comfort diameters and interior layout dimensions have been derived in first order. Afterwards, the anthropometric interior layout concept was extended by the technical layout concept and combined to the vehicle layout concept. After designing the axles and the tires, the luggage volume was pictured. The user-centered vehicle layout conception is completed by the definition of the exterior boundaries. This is achieved in the last work step! The dimensions of the technical layout concept are based on empirically collected and partially published specifications. An extension of the technical layout concept can be seen in the variation of the technical functional units and - involved with that - in the definition of appropriate positions and orientations of these functional units. The vehicle basis body type described in the method of resolution does not only result from the functional dimensioning of the passenger cell, but also from the positioning and orientation of the technical functional units and respectively from the definition of fixed and changeable volumes. The systematic and user-centered vehicle layout conception is an extensive action with altogether 60 dimensions - 9 of them are independent from the comfort classes. They are indicated by black circles - the numbers within these circles state the exact work step. Furthermore, all 60 dimensions can be distinguished in mainly anthropometrical dimensions and mainly technical dimensions. An improvement of the vehicle utility value arises from the user-centered and functionally oriented vehicle development methodology. This has also a positive effect on the vehicle quality. Furthermore, the application of the new method offers an interesting potential for economization. These effects also involve the development process of vehicle layout concepts in the concept phase. During the vehicle development process, cost-intensive loops that are based on an insufficient dimensioning of the occupant cell could be avoided. It is also thinkable that the vehicle overall weight could benefit indirectly from the user-centered vehicle development process. For instance, user-centered alternative entrance and exit concepts, which allow less extensive vehicle bodies, could have a positive effect on the vehicle overall weight.
