In this paper, we present a procedure to optimise, in one unique module and power plant, the implementation of two of the most popular to be power electronic modules in future electric vehicles: the battery-charger and the domestic inverter. Using an appropriate topology for the power block, a substantial hardware reduction may be obtained in the implementation. By introducing a reversible DC/DC converter connected to the high voltage battery and the active PFC, and unifying the control circuit for PFC and DC/AC using a DSP, it is possible to built and optimised system whether the domestic inverter and the battery charger share the H-Bridge used as PFC or DC/AC depending on the operational mode (selected by the user), and optimising the performance of the whole system due to the reduced losses on the MOSFETs used for the implementation. Sections 2 and 3 present the basics on battery-charger and domestic inverter power electronic modules. Section 4 presents the proposed alternative implementation of these two blocks in a unique module. Finally, conclusions are presented.
