An automotive dual-voltage power-net, which requires the application of an asymmetrically cascaded non-inverting boost-buck converter, was introduced. The voltage and current stress for the components of the power stage was investigated. A high-side driver supply circuit for static and PWM-modulated gate driving was proposed for the cascaded boost-buck converter. Several application specific aspects, which are important for the controller design, were introduced. The performance of the developed prototype converter during static and dynamic energy transfer from LV-PN to HV-PN was investigated experimentally. Despite the given difficult operating conditions, like wide voltage ranges, high currents and disturbances, robust converter behaviour with very high efficiency was achieved.
