Most hazardous for a diesel locomotive with asynchronous traction drive is a through fault in the stand-alone voltage inverter. The short circuit of the motor phases through the broken through IGBTs (insulated gate bipolar transistors) and bypass diodes generates a shock braking electromagnetic torque of the motor, which exceeds the nominal torque by a factor of four to six. A mathematical model was developed that comprises the electric, mechanic, and controls subsystems of the drive. Computer simulation is used to determine the impact dynamic loads. The methods for decreasing this load our outlined. The emergency modes are simulated for the prototype of a 2TE25A locomotive with DTA470 motors. Thanks to the planetary gear effect of the support-axial motor suspension, the maximal impact dynamic loads in the elements of the traction transmission of the diesel locomotive may be reduced to the level of a 2.5-fold nominal value.
