Advanced Safety Systems, such as Autonomous Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Departure Warning (LDWS) have been available for a number of years now. Until recently, fitment has largely been confined to expensive, luxury vehicles. Such systems are now becoming more widely available on mass-market vehicles, such as the Ford Mondeo. However, they still remain typically expensive optional extras. This paper examines in detail the consumer willingness to pay for advanced safety features, and identifies the segments that are most ready to pay higher prices. It is based upon extensive end-consumer research undertaken by Strategy Analytics' Automotive Buyer Dynamics program.
