This paper presents the results of a research project aimed at devising an efficient method of safety case construction and certification for electronic railway systems according to the relevant CENELEC standards. The main goal of the approach described is to reduce technical and project risks through a comprehensible and traceable representation of the safety argument, and the enforcement of a sound argument structure. The elements implemented for this purpose are safety case frameworks, safety case modules and safety case patterns, which are integrated into a process and hazard model. This model is then used for system design and hazard analysis.
