This paper reports about the introduction of formal methods in the development process of a railway signalling manufacturer. In particular, two aspects that have benefited of the introduction of formal specification tools are discussed, as the safety analysis of the possible faults of the hardware elements of the developed system, by means of simulation of the countermeasures adopted, and the assurance of consistency of rapidly changing requirements for a completely new system. The next steps of the introduction of formal methods, namely formal verification and code generation, are also discussed.
