This paper presents innovative research on how virtual enterprise technology, on top of the existing massive distributed computing environments, supports distributed collaboration in industrial aeronautic design and analysis. An information system supporting multi-disciplinary analysis for transonic wing design is realised, making use of a Java-based enterprise information architecture. This system provides users as well as other systems easy and controlled access to distributed computing resources as being used in aircraft development programmes. Neither specific software infrastructure nor specific IT knowledge are required for its usage. A prototype of this system, based on the proposed architecture, is illustrated and some example results for wing design in a virtual enterprise setting are shown.
