Today up to 70 embedded controllers are linked together in the automotive electronic network with different bus systems like CAN (Controller Area Network), LIN (Local Interconnect Network), MOST (Media Oriented System Transport) and in future with FlexRay. Gateway controllers are operating between the bus systems, establishing a complex communication scheme and passing messages between these buses. The challenge for the automobile manufacturers is to integrate the electronic systems into one network and to ensure the correct and fault-free operation. The discussed bus features and analysis requirements are supported with the a multiBUS Analyzer and Recorder. The component integration task and the development of the electronic sub-systems at different protocol levels needs the following important features: Independent time stamps with 10ns resolution, Passive coupling and easy setup without bus configurations, Large integrated message buffer for data recording, Several trigger inputs for optimized data recording, Several trigger outputs to synchronize external measurement tools and Flexibility to support new bus protocols (exchangable bus adapter).
