The collision pulse represents one of the essential criterion for the realisation of crashworthiness requirements for railway vehicles, as a result of the following required measures. The resisting overriding, the controlled energy absorption, the preserving survival space and the resisting intrusion into survival space. The pulse describes the development of the deceleration rate of a carbody and therefore the demands of passengers and equipment devices. The actual layout of the new European standard EN 15227 (European Norm) only requires, that the global deceleration of the vehicle should limited to a level consistent with the strength of the equipment devices. The new standard declares a mean deceleration of 5 g with a maximum 7,5 g, but it doesn't describe the characteristic of the collision pulse. Considering as example of the development of the new regional trainset Protos we are able to show some calculations for the collision pulse. These investigations discover different important influencing factors, for example the influence of the vehicle front design, the variation of the energy absorption concept and the train composition.
