In much research that has been conducted on motorcycles, the complexity of the human factor is a common problem. Experimentation that uses a real vehicle needs a test rider. However, in simulations it is very difficult to represent human dynamics and behavior. This problem causes difficulty when comparing the results of the experiment and the simulation. To analyze the counter-steering phenomenon of motorcycles, experimental results and simulation results were compared. The following results were acquired through this study. (1) It is confirmed that the DCT (Damping unit, Counter-steering angle, and Temporary input) mechanism, can control an unmanned motorcycle in scale modeling. The DCT mechanism is useful for testing motorcycles. This mechanism can be used to stabilize and turn a motorcycle without moving the center of gravity. A control circuit including a microcomputer can repeat experiments with equivalent conditions. (2) The experimental result shows the counter-steering phenomenon. Counter-steering input causes rolling motion and yawing motion in the opposite direction. It is also confirmed that the self-steering function works to steer the handle to the neutral position in a small steer angle disturbance. (3) The DCT mechanism can give constant steering torque .input. Therefore, it is easy to compare the experimentation with a simulation based on a mathematical model without rider movement. (4) A small wireless camera is a useful device for measuring the rolling angle of a running motorcycle. Accuracy, efficiency and treatment in real time are future subjects. (5) The simulation results using Sharp's refined model also show the counter-steering phenomenon. Both the steering angle and rolling angle qualitatively coincide with the experimental result, therefore, rolling resistance, round profile and centrifugal force are very important elements in motion analyses of motorcycles.
