Due to their favourable technological features Laser scanners bear a large potential for serving as the sensor of choice in ADAS applications. In this paper it is shown how the requirements of ACC Stop and Go, Automatic Emergency Brake, PreCrash, Pedestrian Protection and Lane Departure Warning are met by the Laserscanner system. As a particular advantage these applications can be operated in parallel by a single Laserscanner. IBEO developed the Laserscanner under the requirement to simultaneously support the applications ACC Stop and Go, Automatic Emergency Braking, PreCrash, Pedestrian Protection, and Lane Departure Warning. With the automotive Laserscanner ALASKA XT all technological requirements were successfully met. These translate into a measurement range of up to 200 m, scan frequency of up to 40 Hz, horizontal scan angle of up to 240 degree with a resolution down to 0.25 degree, The vertical beam width measures 3.2 degree split in 4 channels, which are evaluated in parallel to compensate for pitching of the vehicle. Robustness against adverse weather conditions has been achieved by the implementation of a multi target capability. With a maximum of 4 targets per laser shot ALASKA XT is able to discriminate between meaningless targets like raindrops and meaningful target, which belong to objects on the road. Due to the fact that the ALASKA XT complies with the requirements of laser class 1 a non-restricted use in a public environment is possible.
