Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) is now necessary equipment to use in transport category aircraft for international and national flights in majority countries in the world. Such kind of equipment was developed in accordance with ICAO requirements and is produced by a number of well-known American companies. The situation in such countries as Ukraine is still different from West countries because mode S (address interrogation) still is not introduced in surveillance radars of majority of airports there. That is why majority of airplanes are not equipped with mode S transponder. This means that if an air company wants to make international flights, this company must equip its airplanes not only with TCAS but also with mode S transponder. On the one hand this equipment is quite expensive, and on the other hand, taking into account that in many cases both mode S transponder and TCAS are necessary, a new more effective engineering solution can be done on the basis of modern scientific and technological level. This paper presents a new version of autonomous airborne traffic collision avoidance system SPS-2000 that has been developed in Ukraine. The system meets all ICAO requirements to such kind of systems and is similar by its functionalities to TCAS-II system. However it distinguishes from any version of TCAS-II by original structure, design, circuit engineering, and construction of units. The developed SPS-2000 system and appropriate airborne equipment has been successfully tested and installed on several airplanes of Ukrainian and Russian production. Wide implementation of the developed system will promote further modernization of air traffic services.
