The present article deals with investigation results in the field of hot forming. For the investigations the steel material MB-K1500 with hot dip aluminized surface was used. In this connection the contribution refers to parameters which are particularly important for the series production, such as temperature of the furnace, the time needed for sheet transfer between the furnace and the press and the cooling-rate. Beside this an outlook is given as to the possibilities of the hot forming process working with a heated tool. The test series carried out by TKS on flat sheets show that the material properties of the press-quenched test pieces in these tests were mainly influenced by the tool temperatures and the process that followed. Although varying the cooling rates had an effect on the microstructure formation, this did not have an effect on the material characteristics with the parameters which were chosen. In order to achieve strength properties above 1500 MPa, the tool temperature must be below 200 deg C. In general, the MB-K1500 showed very stable behavior in relation to the hot-forming process because of the composition of the alloy. In view of this component evaluation and its fluctuations in strength over the component geometry therefore, something other than the surface pressure must be affecting the characteristics which can be achieved. By observing the press-quenching of the components, areas exist with earlier and, due to the deformation, later tool contact. This also has an effect on the technological characteristics. The forming degrees of the respective component areas here led to a change in the martensite finish temperature. This is also known from the transformation-time-temperature diagram for the material. However, the thinning out of material during deformation and the resulting contact surface and direct cooling have a direct effect which depends on how well the areas of the tool have been worked in for this process. Of equal importance is to observe the heat properties of the tool in regard to a constant temperature distribution.
