As shown by experience, using an AC drive with asynchronous motor not only eliminates the deficiencies of a DC motor but also increases the overall drive reliability and reduces operating costs and power consumption by up to 40 %. Currently, the 75-kW motor for drives of six-axle streetcars is modified, and a 55-kW asynchronous motor drive is developed for four-axle light-rail cars. The motor parameters and operating conditions are presented. On the basis of the motor dynamics, the rotor magnetic system and the casting material yield a maximum torque 30 % greater than for general-purpose motors. To ensure speed control, a DE-F20-1 speed sensor is attached to an insulated bracket on the bearing housing at the working end of the motor shaft or on the fan end.
