New designs of transponders with additional features have been introduced. The SMD-coils in a remote hand held transmitter are ready for lead-free processes and is in compliance with the European directive 2002/95/EC 'RoHS'. The improved ferrite cores lead to the maximum performance of sensitivity at a given design space. The strength of the ferrite core has been more than doubled and passes standard vibration and drop tests. An optimized ferrite material with Curie temperature more than 170 deg C with an excellent temperature dependence of the permeability provides a small variation of inductance of the antenna coil. For the vehicle side new ferrite materials with low magnetostrictive properties and an optimized construction of the coil lead to new low acoustic noise emission features of the transmitter antenna. The advanced transponder coils provide the basis for an enlargement of the remote keyless entry systems on the market and will probably be commonplace in the next decade.
