Automobile manufacturers require sense data to analyse and improve the driving experience. Currently, sensors are physically wired to both data collectors and the car battery, thus the number of wires scale linearly with sensors. The authors design alternative power and communications subsystems to minimise these wires' impact on the test environment. This paper is organised as follows. In Section 2 the authors present their wireless sensor (WS) hardware design. Their proposed WS collaboration method for the automobile-testing-environment sensor network will be discussed in Section 3. This network lifetime is bounded by the average power consumption of individual WS, discussed in Section 4. Finally the authors describe future work in Section 5.
