The possibilities of using characteristics of special-correlation analysis as informative parameters for the acoustic-emission (AE) inspection of pig launchers-receivers (PLRs) of oil main pipelines (OMPs) are considered. The acoustic emission caused by wind and atmospheric precipitation that act on a pipe and, thus, generate noise are studied. It can be concluded from the preliminary analysis that the effective width and median frequency of a spectrum can be used to identify the AE inspection processes of PLRs of OMPs. According to the results of the analysis, the limiting spectral frequency of the signals generated by snow does not exceed 100 kHz. The effective spectral width (where 90 % of the signal energy is concentrated) and the median frequency (at which the acoustic-radiation power is halved) have been calculated. For the signals generated by snow crystals, the effective spectral width is 40 kHz and the median frequency is 10 kHz. In the case of sleet, the effective width is 10 kHz and the median frequency is 1 kHz.
