An experimental control system was developed for a driver's seat suspension. The main purpose of the system is to improve the driver's safety and comfort during the ride through automatic adjustment to both the driver's body weight and variable levels of shock and ground-induced vibrations. The system consists of a linear MR (Magneto-Rheological) damper, a controller implemented in the environment of MATLAB/Simulink and a current driver for supplying the damper coil. The considered controllers have two inputs and one output. The input signals for each controller are seat velocity and relative velocity (difference between seat and shaker base velocities), while the output signal is current in a MR damper coil. The fuzzy logic controller uses Mamdami inference system with 5 rules. Both controllers were designed on the basis of experiments in the open loop system configuration over the frequency range of 1 to 10 Hz.
