MPC (Model Predictive Control) can bring interesting benefits to active suspension system. An active suspension system for personal car with linear electric motor as actuator has been designed. The resulted closed loop system should satisfy certain requirements: car handling and passengers comfort improvement. The output states are: (1) wheel to road deviation, (2) body to wheel deviation, (3) body acceleration and (4) wheel acceleration. There are two important constraints, which should be applied during active suspension design. The first constraint is the maximum suspension stroke, which is limited by linear electric motor. The second constraint is the achievable motor force. The constraints on motor force (control action) are time variant, because the maximum achieved force depends on suspension movement speed. So these constraints should be computed continually in the loop (according to output prediction). Because of the saturation constraints on the actuator MPC design has been chosen. For experiment and simulation results linear electric motor TBX3810 and its Simulink model has been used.
