This contribution reports on the development of prototypes of flexible, Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS) based, thin film solar cells suitable for integration in a lightweight solar array. The development of a dedicated baseline technology for cell processing is outlined. Aspects concerning process reproducibility and yield are discussed. Two different technological concepts (batch-type, in-line) for CIGS absorber layer preparation are investigated. Losses in cell performance due to scaling up the device area are evaluated. Efficiencies of 15.0 % have been reached so far for a device of 27.1 cm 2 under AMI.5 illumination.
