This paper shows the analysis methodology of drivetrain vibrations using multi-body dynamic simulation. Different analysis approaches from 1-dimensional to 3-dimensional system approach using flexible structures and the tools' different modelling complexity allow both considerations of low frequency effects as well as investigations in the high frequency acoustic range. The basis for these investigations is a torsional approach applied to a front-transverse drivetrain. A gradual increase of the model complexity shows the additional consideration of specific effects in drivetrain components, respectively high frequency vibrations. Moreover the usage of flexible bodies also allows the determination of structure-borne noise and sresses in single components. The investigation is described by help of the AVL simulation tools CRUISE, TYCON, and EXCITE.
