Design and realization of efficient safety-critical real-time systems still constitute a scientific, technical and economical challenge. The difficulty is to create, safety-critical real-time systems that not only implement more complex functions, but also have a development cycle that is at the same time rigorous and flexible and includes verification and validation steps. New solutions must be at least as safe as those already existing and be in accordance with the enforced standards of the concerned industrial domains. For several years, vehicles have less and less mechanical and hydraulic systems which are replaced by 'X-by-wire' electronics ones. These automotive technologies are introduced in order to enhance safety, economy and functionality of the vehicle. Some of these functions (steering, braking assistance or powertrain) are safety-critical. Then, industrials of automotive domain, like those from energy and aerospace, need to have distributed safety-critical realtime systems, consisting of several independent nodes communicating via a network. These system architectures answer to this growing demand in terms of safety, by having a finer use of its intrinsic parallelism and distribution, modularity and redundancy, and better performance (future applications will become more and more intricate). Moreover, they allow to establish efficient networks of sensors/actuators with lowers costs, since computations can be performed on the same location as data acquisition.
