Improvements in interior noise reduction of vehicles by means of active noise and vibration cancellation systems are shown. Booming noises occur when e.g. structure resonances are excited either by certain orders or by road-induced excitations. Active vibro-acoustic systems generate signals to compensate noise and/or vibration contributions. Two systems were applied on a 4-cyl-hatchback vehicle and compared regarding noise reduction. Sound pressure level was reduced strongly depending on driving conditions. A vehicle equipped with piezo-electric ceramics around the circumference of a drive shaft reduced booming noise at a certain frequency.
