Nowadays, electrical actuators are widespread in aeronautical applications with the development of the more electric aircraft. Electro-active materials offer opportunities in the activation of various control surfaces within a wide range of frequencies. On one hand, a theoretical analysis of SMA (Shape Memory Alloys) capabilities in the field of quasi-static wing shape control is presented. On the other hand, an experimental study concerning friction drag reduction for a supersonic aircraft is dealt with. The aim is the control of turbulent streaks with spanwise travelling wave. A piezoelectric demonstrator was designed for wind-tunnel testing at different configurations of frequency and wave-length.
