It is important to know the driver's physiological and psychological condition while driving to avoid anxiety and improve driver safety. If the driver's state can be estimated in real time from his physiological and psychological condition, adaptive driving support in the form of information and advice or changing vehicle characteristics may be realized. Driving fatigue estimation from changes in the body pressure distribution while driving for a long period of time was considered. The feasibility of an estimation method was examined, which estimated fatigue by determining whether the changes of the LCP (load center position) were greater than those in ordinary driving. Three continuous simulated driving tasks (Sessions 1-3) that lasted a duration of 2 hours were conducted twice for each of 12 subjects. Driving fatigue in Sessions 2 and 3 was estimated by comparing the change of the LCP with those in the 'ordinary driving' of Session 1. The results illustrated the potential of the method.
