A new approach is presented for active suspension systems, where linear electric motor has been used as an actuator. Linear motor has several important advantages. The main one is that linear motor can work, in generally, in generator mode and thus can produce electrical energy for next use. The linear motor is used in active mode only and then the energy demands are observed and optimized by Hinfinite theory. The main problem in such control is robustness, because the vehicle parameters vary in wide range in real car. From this point of view, the Hinfinite theory is suitable. All these aspect of control are taken into account and Hinfinite controller satisfying mentioned criteria has been designed. Requirements on a closed loop characteristic - vehicle stability and passenger comfort - are contradictory and therefore controller behavior is a tiny trade-off. The simulation implies that very good attenuation of body acceleration and vertical displacement peaks has been achieved. The second requirement (vehicle stability) has been slightly improved too. Of course, it is impossible to improve both criteria in the whole frequency range simultaneously, but for automotive system, it is sufficient to improve passenger comfort in the specific frequencies only. Moreover the robustness of the system has been checked during the simulations. Most sensitive parameters have been change to make worst case, some nonlinearities has been neglected, measured output has been disturbed and characteristics of the car has been plotted to prove the robustness. A result has been compared with conventional passive suspension and it can be concluded, that designed controller satisfies robustness requirements, because Hinfinite theory itself guarantee robustness properties.
